About The Ancient Mason Lodge
of Dundee No. 49

Heritage & Identity

Founded in 1745, the Ancient Mason Lodge of Dundee No. 49 is one of the city’s longest-standing institutions.

Operating under the Scottish Constitution, we are a working Masonic Lodge committed to integrity, personal development and charitable service. For over three centuries, the Lodge has provided structure, fellowship and community contribution within Dundee.

Our history is longstanding, but our purpose remains relevant.

What is Freemasonry?

Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest fraternal organisations. It promotes:

  • Moral character
  • Self-improvement
  • Charity and community service
  • Respect and mutual support

Through regular meetings, ceremonial tradition and charitable activity, members develop personally while contributing positively to society.

We welcome respectful enquiries from those seeking to learn more.

Our Role in the Dundee Community

While Freemasonry is at the heart of the Lodge, our building on Artillery Lane also serves the wider community.

We operate:

  • A members’ social club
  • Regular social and charitable events
  • Open days for the public
  • Hall hire for private and community functions

The Lodge continues to support local causes and community initiatives across Dundee.

Our Premises

Located at 7–9 Artillery Lane in Dundee city centre, our premises provide:

  • A traditional Lodge room
  • Flexible event space
  • Bar facilities
  • Central access within walking distance of Dundee amenities

The building blends heritage with practical use, serving both members and the wider community.
